Hong Kong Airlines, a full-service airline based in Hong Kong, is committed to nurturing the next generation of the aviation industry and supporting the younger generation to achieve their dream of flying high. The Programme has received an overwhelming response since its launch, with 1,000 students, parents and teachers benefiting from free flights on Hong Kong Airlines last year. This year, Hong Kong Airlines is proceeding with the 2016/17 edition of the Programme, which is now open to for registration. Hong Kong Airlines has extended the Programme to universities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), in addition to the original beneficiaries of primary and secondary students. This will let it offer opportunities to more youths, so that they can let their imagination take flight, and keep reinventing with Hong Kong Airlines!
Mr. Zhang Kui, President of Hong Kong Airlines said, “Hong Kong Airlines encourage our younger generation to be bold in their thinking, to dream and to fly. This year, Hong Kong Airlines has extended the Programme to universities and NGOs, to support more youths. In future, Hong Kong Airlines will devote more resources to cooperating with local schools and NGOs, and will organise more programmes which improve the welfare of students.”
Programme to benefit 1,000 individuals across 50 schools and NGOs
Hong Kong Airlines’ “Embrace the World” Student Sponsorship Programme 2016/17 will offer 1,000 complimentary air tickets worth more than HK$7 million, to students with outstanding performance in their studies or other pursuits. This is also the first time Hong Kong Airlines has opened up the Programme to universities and NGOs. Fifty award-winning schools and NGOs will each receive 20 complimentary air tickets, and various awards will be given out to recognise the stellar achievements of schools and NGOs, as well as teachers and students. This will enable youngsters to travel the world, broaden their horizons and explore infinite possibilities with Hong Kong Airlines.
Teachers and NGOs’ representatives who wish to apply to the Programme may register at www.hkaembracetheworld2016.com before 8 July 2016. They are required to participate in the kick-off ceremony and briefing session on 21 July 2016. Following the briefing session, teachers and NGOs’ representatives are required to submit proposals for their various activities before 9 September 2016. Hong Kong Airlines will then select successful entrants and announce the results on 16 September 2016.
To obtain sponsorship, participating schools have to propose a creative extra-curricular activity on any of the following themes of “New Generation”, “Free Thinking” and “Constant Reinvention”. Their proposals have to clearly state the learning objective and distribution mechanism for the allotment of the complimentary air tickets. There is no specific restriction in terms of the activity genre, which is left to schools and NGOs to decide. As Hong Kong Airlines place great importance on corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability, it encourages schools and NGOs to incorporate environmental elements into their proposals.
Gold Coast air tickets to recognise outstanding participants
Successful entrants are required to submit their travel journals latest by August 2017 to share their travel experiences. Participants whose submissions are selected as the 10 most outstanding journals will receive the “Best Student Performance Award”, and be invited to participate in an overseas exchange programme. The Programme will also recognise accomplished schools, educators and individuals the “Outstanding School Award”, “Outstanding Teacher Award” and five “Green Concept Awards”; with the latter organized by Hong Kong Airlines and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. All winners will receive two round-trip air tickets from Hong Kong to Gold Coast, Australia.
The “Outstanding School Award” aims to get participating schools to encourage their students to share their most exciting travel experiences. Hong Kong Airlines will give the Award to the school with the highest number of outstanding journals. The “Outstanding Teacher Award” aims to encourage schools and NGOs to submit reports on the Programme to share the highlights and results of their participation. Hong Kong Airlines and veteran educators will pick the teacher who best exemplifies the concept of “New Generation, Free Thinking and Constant Reinvention”, based on the activity proposal. The “Green Concept Award” recognises participants who play a part in protecting the environment. A panel comprising representatives from Hong Kong Airlines, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and prominent environmental NGOs will pick the top five schools and NGOs with the highest engagement rate for their environmental sustainability activity for this Award.
