The carnival will be held in the new Central Waterfront and will continue for three days starting from August 4. 20 former world champions of League of Legends (LOL) will be invited to compete for the HK$300,000 (US$38,500) prize, including Toyz from Hong Kong, xPeKe from Spain and Ruofeng from Chinese mainland.
Lin Jianyue, Chairman of the Board, stated during the launch ceremony that half of the overnight visitors to Hong Kong are young people and in order to enhance HK’s reputation as the “The Capital of Asia Events”, the city needs to offer something new to this crowd.
The number of global e-sports viewers is expected to hit 385 million in 2017 and the gross revenue is expected to reach almost US$700 million, with a year-on-year growth of over 41 percent.
