Currently, the pilot is undergoing medical treatment in a hospital since he has suffered burns after he was blasted in the face by the fire. Five tourists had also suffered burns in their hands. They had to be rushed to the hospital but then they were discharged in the same day.
Officials from Balloon Adventures Emirates said that a ‘technical malfunction’ had led to the misfiring of the balloon just after the balloon made a landing.
The partner in this firm, Adam McEwan said that the pilot had received a ‘face full of flash’. He added that after landing, a major technical malfunction with the burner had triggered the balloon crash. Instead of switching off, it flashed in the direction of the pilot.
Contrary to the earlier reports, McEwan said that the balloon was already on the ground at the end of the flight when the incident occurred.
However, he said that the Dutchman who has not been named received the full force of the burner. This is because he had been standing inside the cockpit at that time.
He also said that the pilot had ensured that the passengers including one Swiss national and four Chinese tourists had exited the balloon first, despite the fact that he had suffered burns and was suffering after he had inhaled smoke, acting like a hero in the true sense of the term.
