Hotels.comannounced a partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland to showcase exciting travel options near the Great Barrier Reef. The two debuted a deep sea diving adventure video illustrating the ease of use of the popular mobile booking app from Hotels.com. The new video features Ben Southall – winner of Queensland’s popular “The Best Job in the World” competition – booking a room on the Hotels.com mobile app while deep sea diving in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Hotels.com and Tourism and Events Queensland are also hosting a Twitter contest via @hotelsdotcom and #HotelsDownUnder to send one winner and a companion to Queensland, Australia to tour the Great Barrier Reef. The winner will receive roundtrip airfare for two and all transfers, two-night hotel stays at the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort and Spa and the Green Island Resort, and access to the region’s top excursions, including a voucher for two to experience a guided day trip in the Daintree Rainforest.
Southall and his fellow diver, Gemma Bedlington, explore one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World, The Great Barrier Reef, before they decide to book a hotel room in the middle of the ocean. They choose and book the hotel before their flippers touch the shores of Green Island, all thanks to Hotels.com mobile booking capabilities.
“I had the good fortune to live in Queensland a few years back and no matter how often I got to explore The Great Barrier Reef, I was always stunned by how vivid and beautiful it is. Personally, I am thrilled to get to showcase the Hotels.com mobile booking app in the brilliant backdrop of The Great Barrier Reef,” said Neha Parikh, vice president and general manager, Hotels.com North America. “Not only does it bring to attention the breadth of destinations to book on our site, but, with the pair of active scuba divers, it illustrates the power of our ‘on-the-go’ booking capabilities!”
“Between the stunning corals, incredibly diverse marine life and hundreds of tropical islands, the coast of Queensland truly is one of Australia’s greatest treasures,” said Kerri Anderson, international director, the Americas, Tourism and Events Queensland. “As the best scuba diving destination in the world and an area of extreme adventure and natural beauty, the Great Barrier Reef just seemed like the perfect setting to book the perfect hotel.”
Following its launch in 2011, the Hotels.com app is now available for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 and has achieved more than 25 million downloads. Users can manage their Welcome Rewards® accounts, access up to 20,000 last-minute hotel deals based on their search and current location, read seven million traveler reviews, as well as get quick and easy access to upcoming reservations, thanks to a contextual home page, which changes based on the user.
