HRG predicts data security, travel risk management and mobile to be top of client agenda in 2014

HRGClients will focus on the security of their travel related data in 2014, according to Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), the award-winning international corporate services company. Increased travel to and from emerging markets will see clients looking to improve travel risk management and duty of care for travellers. Demand for additional mobile technology will also feature strongly.

Data Security

Stewart Harvey, Group Commercial Director at HRG, comments: “Data protection and privacy concerns have dominated the news agenda in 2013. Well publicised incidents involving compromised corporate data, and the risks this brings to personal privacy, has sharpened clients focus on the security of their travel related data.”

“In order to mitigate risks associated with data protection and privacy, our advice to clients is to put in place a global data consolidation strategy.  By consolidating their travel related data with a TMC, quality control assurances will be put in place to protect corporate and traveller information. The added reporting capabilities will also deliver increased compliance and reduced data leakage.”

Travel Risk Management

In response to increased travel to emerging markets and concerns over traveller safety, clients will boost their risk management capabilities. Harvey adds: “As confidence grows in 2014 clients will be exploiting new markets for business, particularly in South East Asia and West Africa. These new business geographies increase the scope of both traveller safety and security requirements and clients must include a crisis response capability.

There has been much debate around the future of the travel policy – and it is not all hype – however all clients demand a level of control to ensure their corporate duty of care responsibilities are met. Travel managers require at the touch of the button the ability to see where their travellers are and have the risk management procedures in place to help them when they are in need.”

Mobile Technology

HRG expects to see additional demand for more advanced mobile technology in the year ahead, bringing with it further data security challenges. Harvey explains: “Business travellers are often first adopters of new technology. They understand that there is more to mobile than just reading their itinerary, so demand for additional functionality to improve the business travel experience will continue to grow in 2014.

“At the same time, corporates need to understand the risks to data associated with travellers going it alone. By implementing security standards and measures surrounding the use of unprotected sites, the flow of data and access to confidential material corporates can facilitate a safe operating environment for travellers to work in, utilising the technology that will suit them most.”

HRG sees the increased data security risks resulting in clients consolidating their travel programme, which in turn will present significant opportunities. Harvey says: “By consolidating their travel programme, clients will see improved compliance, resulting in greater control and visibility over their travel related data.

“Not only will consolidating the travel programme reduce risk to client’s data, their traveller’s privacy and their security, it will also provide opportunity for cost savings. Travel managers can reduce total T&E costs by leveraging the additional card and expense management data brought in to the travel programme.”
