Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Prime Minister of Vietnam has requested authorities of the previous imperial capital of Hue to benefit from heritage and culture of the city to attract maximum international tourists.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, the previous imperial capital is the prime tourist destination in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The news website of the Government chinhphu.vn quoted the PM expressing that the city should exploit its historical values along with cultural heritage in the positive sense to make advancement for the tourism sector of the province.
The central city which reigned from 1802 until 1945 and the home of the Nguyen Dynasty has been dubbed the “Kyoto of Vietnam,” because of plenty of its historical and cultural sites, like the former Hue Imperial Citadel and royal tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty kings.
Last year, the province greeted over 3.8 million visitors, a growth of 16% over 2016.
Around 1.5 million visitors were overseas, accounting a 42% year-on-year rush, as tourism revenue hit VND3.52 trillion (USD155 million), up 10% against 2016 the government website noted.
Though, tourism experts state that the province didn’t succeed to reach its full potential, as a tourism magnet. Tourism contributed around 15% to the province’s budget collection in 2017.
