A packed Vueling aircraft, destined to Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain from Ibiza, had to be delayed on the tarmac as a police officer’s gun accidentally went off inside the cabin of the flight. The incident instantly terrified all the holiday makers boarding the flight.
None of the passengers or the crew members of the flight was reported to be injured. Fortunately, the bullet was shot into the officer’s luggage instead of any passenger or crew.
The Flight VY3420 had to be delayed for half an hour after the incident as engineers had to be called in to check for possible damages in the aircraft.
According to the passengers, many National Police agents were travelling in that aircraft, which was scheduled to take off around 1.15 pm local time.
Witnesses informed that the officers were handing over their guns to the pilot of the flight according to protocol. As one of those officers tried to hand over his gun, it accidentally discharged the bullet inside his suitcase. The officer moved to the side of the jet to remove the gun and the bullets but the bullet somehow discharged and filled the cabin with the stench of gunpowder.
A Vueling spokesperson informed that there were no further consequences for the passengers and the crew members after this incident occured. The airlines authorities stated that the incident was a ‘minor’ one.
