In Cologne Germany, the biggest pride parade is about to start. It’s not only one of the major local festivals, but at the same time its Germany’s one of the largest travel and tourism events.
Fifty years back in June, the first major uprisings of LGBTIQ * happened on Christopher Street in New York in protest of police harassment. It was the militant prelude to a worldwide liberation movement that has took different turn in many countries to this day.
Nowadays, LGBTIQ * have almost attained equal rights in several countries world over. However not in countries with stiff repression, and the fact is also that homo, trans * and bi-phobia is on the rise again.
In Germany, the AfD presented in the Bundestag the demand to eliminating marriage for all, and the new CDU party leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer openly defends the denial of same-sex marriage. In addition the fact that violence against LGBTIQ * has increased by 30% in recent years.
“50 years of pride – MANY. TOGETHER. STRONG! We are MANY and we have to stand TOGETHER and STRONG against the sharp winds of right and group-focused enmity.”
WE ARE ALL TOGETHER STRONG, and with MANY TOGETHER, we will achieve our goals of full equality.
THE BATTLE IS STILL NOT OVER!
Cologne invited visitors to come to Cologne Pride and today, Sunday is the 50 years of Pride, Together we are strong parade in this German city by the Rhine River.
