In this year’s July, tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka increased six percent to 217,829 from a year earlier, with India, China and the United Kingdom the biggest source markets, data from the state tourism promotion office highlighted.
Arrivals in the seven months to July increased from 13.7 percent to 1.2 million visitors from the previous year.
India, China, the UK, Netherlands and France were top five international tourist generating markets of Sri Lanka in July 2018, the tourism office said in a report.
India was the largest tourist traffic source to Sri Lanka with 14% of the total traffic received in July of this year after China which accounted for 13% of traffic.
With 12% of total arrivals, the UK came next, followed by the Netherlands and France which accounted for 6% and 5% of traffic.
Europe carried on to be the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 44% of the total traffic welcomed in July of this year as the Asia and Pacific accounted for 42% of total traffic, and the Middle East 7%.
