Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. (WAA) is proud to announce Winnipeg’s first direct flight to Europe in nearly five years, which will depart Saturday evening. The inaugural May 7 WestJet voyage is taking travellers to London, England and provides non-stop access from Winnipeg to this beautiful city.
“New direct non-stop service to the United Kingdom further solidifies our commitment to serving the community by offering a variety of convenient travel destinations,” said Pascal Belanger, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “Alongside the positive economic impacts this route creates, re-establishing a transatlantic connection propels our community forward by giving travellers the freedom and convenience to explore new horizons abroad.”
Weekly service to London’s Gatwick Airport with WestJet will be offered between May 7, 2016 and October 1, 2016. Passengers will enjoy direct, non-stop service to the UK on one of WestJet’s four new Boeing 767-300 extended-range aircraft, which seats 262 passengers. Flights are scheduled to depart from Winnipeg at 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
“As one of WestJet’s original five start-up cities when the airline launched some twenty years ago, we’re pleased Winnipeg is part of their expansion to Europe,” added Belanger.
With the introduction of service to London, England on May 7 and to Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 2, travellers can now reach 55 direct destinations from Winnipeg. WAA will continue to expand offerings while enhancing the experience for airport visitors.
