In addition to a new concrete overlay on all pavements except facilities built during the 2nd phase construction completed June 2008, the corporation repaired cold joints of its 951km-long passenger apron. Around KW 30 billion was invested in the renovation for the past five years.
Incheon began the phased pavement repairs in 2010 based on long-term plans as there emerged a necessity to refurbish old facilities built when the airport opened, 2001. Meanwhile the replacement of cold joints was finished in October, two months earlier than expected.
As airports have to provide non-stop service, Incheon Airport took a phased approach, avoiding peak time of the field for the renovation in an effort to minimize passenger inconvenience.
The corporation has been conducting assessment on status of pavement every two year including bearing power test for its own facilities such as runways, by adopting Pavement Management system, PMS in 2001.
