The Indian tourism minister KJ Alphons thanked the Indian prime minister and credited him for the increase in interest for India as a destination, following India’s winning the best exhibitor award at International Tourism Festival ITB-Berlin.
Alphons said, “These are the biggest awards in the world and India was the big hit in Germany. It’s the first time India has won this prize. I would like to thank the prime minister for keep the Indian flag flying high.”
The ITB-Berlin World Tourist Meet was held in Berlin, Germany from 7th March to 10th March, 2018.
India was represented by its tourism minister KJ Alphons along with other tourism ministry officials. More than 100 countries participated in ITB-Berlin with their respective tourism ministers.
The event also marked the launch of the Indian tourism ministry’s 60 seconds promotional ad on yoga called ‘Yogi of the racetrack.’ “In four days we have had 7 million views for our promotional ad. We have spent an enormous amount of time on this. The ministry will launch a series of six such ads over the next few months,” Alphons said.
Tourism secretary Rashmi Bansal said that the ministry is working on promoting cultural evenings at national monuments in different destinations and has undertaken initiatives like keeping monuments illuminated at night. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and UP are the top performing states in terms of foreign tourist arrivals. Alphons said that the ministry is also in the process of finalizing the national tourism policy and taking it to the cabinet.
