From 1st April, India liberalized its visa regulations permitting multiple entries and longer stay on electronic visa in terms of business, tourism and medical ground with the intention of stimulating economic development in the country.
Last year on November 30th, Cabinet had approved these alterations. Now, the e-visa is divided into three categories namely – e-business, e-tourist and e-medical visa respectively. Nationals of 161 countries can enjoy this facility to enter the country through 24 airports while three ports in Goa, Cochin and Mangalore can take advantage of cruise tourism from various countries around the globe. In a few days time, Mumbai and Chennai seaports will be rendering the services.
From 30 days to 120 days the window for application under e-visa scheme has been increased. Whereas, as confirmed by a senior official, the duration of stay on e-visa has been increased from 30 days to 60 days with double entry on e-tourist and e-business visa and triple entry on e-medical visa respectively.
Now, the normal multiple-entry tourist and business visas will be available to the nationals of most of the countries for a period of five years as 94 Indian missions abroad have biometric enrolment facilities which has already started giving five-year long-term tourist and business visas from March 1 onward.
