Indian Consulate in the province of Guangzhou had organized India-China (Sanya) Tourism Exchange Seminar at Sanya. The event was among a series of events that had been hosted as part of the continued efforts to create awareness about the tourist destinations of India.
The seminar was held to coincide with a 3-day Global Yoga Exchange Conference 2017 being organized in Sanya where several prominent Indian Yoga Gurus are participating, according to a statement from the Consulate.
This seminar witnessed the attendance of senior officials from Sanya Municipal Government comprising Tourism Development Commission, Foreign Affairs office, Department of Culture, representatives of media organizations, corporate houses, academia and around 150 travel agents from all across China as well as representatives from airlines.
Addressing the seminar Consulate General of India in Guangzhou named Y K Sailas Thangal offered an elaborate explanation on the tourist destinations of India including the beaches, architectural heritage, tropical islands, flora and fauna, hill stations, temples, back water and a series of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
He also informed them about the strengths of India in the niche of luxury and hospitality sector, medical and wellness tourism and also spiritual tourism comprising that of Buddhist circuits.
He feels that the tour operators need to create packages that enable Chinese visitors to experience the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India.
Currently China is the leading tourism source market.
In the year 2016 nearly 135 million Chinese visitors had travelled overseas.
