At the WTM 2016 in London, India is the leading country. India is currently experiencing a boom in domestic and foreign tourism, and will be showcasing India as a premium destination of the world in all segments, including religious, wellness, tourism and yoga. Vinod Zutshi- Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India said that WTM will be a wonderful platform for India to strengthen its visibility worldwide.
Mr. Zutshi said that India is a land of eternal heritage, growing at a faster pace in terms of arrival of foreign tourists compared to worldwide growth. Till September this year, there has been a phenomenal 10.5% growth compared to last year. It is expected to go to 12% by year end. The hospitality sector is flourishing in India this year and the aviation industry too is growing at a rate of 22% and medical tourism at 23%. India is now one of the most open and liberal countries in the world for e-visa processing. Getting e-visa is also very simple here, getting it in seven day and a lot of tourists are shifting to e-visa procedure. Better connectivity in air travel has boosted India as a year round destination.
Tourists from Europe, the US, the UK, Germany, France and Italy are the biggest source markets for foreign tourists arrival in India. India has launched a media plan with foremost global news and travel channels like CNN, BBC, Discovery and National Geographic Channel and are focusing on country-specific channels. India will also be visible in major magazines and news publications of the world. India has the uniqueness of attracting tourists from all over the world. South-East Asia, China and South Asia are India’s prime targets for Buddhist tourism. India is taking a big team to WTM with many interactive sessions in three days. This will be a huge scope for India making its presence felt all over the world.
