It is believed to provide connectivity to the entire Kashmir valley.
This iconic bridge would be soaring to 359 metres above the bed of River Chenab. Also it would be about 30 metres higher than the globally acclaimed Eiffel Tower in Paris.
This bridge actually represents a significant link in the 111-kilometre stretch between Katra and Banihal that is a portion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla section of the Kashmir Railway project.
Mr. M.K. Gupta, Member Engineering, Railway Board told the regional reporters that the work on installations of the main arch between the two sides of the bridge has already commenced.
The launching of the main arch is truly a massive effort as it involves carrying heavy segments from two ends of the bridge that is the Bakkal end and Kauri end also includes the world’s longest cable crane arrangement. This 1.3 kilometre long bridge is constructed at a price of about Rs. 1,250 crore.
Gupta then further stated that the work is performed via AFCONS through Konkan Railways.
He also said the entire world would be completed by May 2019.
