Indigenous walks to be held monthly in 2016 due to increased demand

downloadGuided walking tours of Dharawal National Park, one hour from the Sydney CBD in the Macarthur region, will be held each month from February to November in 2016 due to popular demand.

The Indigenous walks will take place on the second Saturday of each month from February to November 2016, giving visitors a fresh look at the landscape from a Koori perspective. The tour will be led by an Aboriginal Discovery Ranger who will tell stories of the local indigenous tribes and their culture while also showing visitors the park’s waterfalls, steep-sided sandstone gorges, swimming holes and rock shelters.

‘Dharawal’ refers to the language group of the local indigenous people who have continued their relationship with the area for more than 15,000 years. Their long occupation of the area is evidenced by many indigenous sites, making the reserve among the richest in indigenous heritage in the Sydney region.

The 2km walks will begin at 9am and finish at 10.30am and cost $6 per person. Bookings and ticket pre-payment is essential and places are strictly limited. The grade of the walk is easy to medium, with a few loose surfaces. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and to bring a water bottle with them on the day. The tour will still proceed in the event of wet weather and tickets are non-refundable.
