Golf tourism, an exclusive market in modern day tourism is getting a lot of promotion by the Tourism Ministry these days. On April 6th, a successful promotion was made on showcasing Indonesian golf courses at the Jinghua Golf Club located in Beijing. On May 24th in Seoul, South Korea, the ministry is going to hold its second stage of Sales Mission Golf in East Asia. However, this mission is being expected to connect Indonesian operators in golf tourism with more than 50 to 80 buyers from South Korea. According to I Gde Pitana, the ministry’s deputy for overseas promotion, the primary event in Beijing featured three Indonesian tourist operators.
To quote Pitana, ‘golfers usually spend an average of $6,000 per visit, six times higher than the amount spent by regular foreign tourists.’
To quote Vinsensius Jemadu, the ministry’s deputy assistant for Asia Pacific tourism promotion, ‘golf is a popular sport among South Koreans, especially the elite. In South Korea, the sport isn’t dominated by men only. Women also love to golf. Golf courses in Indonesia are unique. There are 114 international-standard golf courses located across Indonesia, each with its own unique challenges. They all offer stunning panoramic views.’
