Religious Tourism11 Palestinian archaeological experts will receive a 11 day training as confirmed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister. The International Training Workshop on Tourism and Antiquities for Palestinians took place in Yogyakarta and Magelang in Central Java, near the world-famous Borobudur temple. In 1970s, the famous 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist site was renovated by the UNESCO and becomes a World Heritage site as “one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.”

As per the reports of Republika, Indonesia has clearly described capacity building for Palestinian experts as a form of an expression of its sustained support for the Palestinian struggle for freedom. To quote Teguh Wardoyo, Indonesian ambassador, ‘’ Palestine is blessed with amazing historical sites. The training is important to support Palestine’s tourism sector, particularly to develop its archeological sites.’’

Restoration and conservation of historic attractions and efficient tourism management was the main focus whatsoever. Hussein T. Madina of UNESCO said that at present Palestine is working continuously to increase the number of tourists’ inflow into the country and invited many Indonesians to visit and explore their religious sites in Palestine. To quote Al Busyra Basnur, the Foreign Ministry’s director of public diplomacy, ‘’ we are always reminded that it has been almost seven decades since Asia-Africa Conference was established in 1965 to fight against colonialism, but we are still asking for Palestinian independence until now. Indonesia will not remain silent against the occupation.’’
