The Tourism Ministry promoted the scope of regional tourism sector in Indonesia at the China International Travel Mart (CITM) that was hosted in the region of Kunming in China from 17th to 19th November, 2017.
Some of the destinations presented to the visitors included Borobudur Temple, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Manado, Tanjung Kelayang, Lake Toba and Bali.
The deputy minister for overseas promotion I Gde Pitana mentioned that the number of Chinese travellers is actually the largest in the entire world marking up to 120 million people. But then just 2% of the people had travelled to Indonesia.
This is the perfect timing for promotion since they had been nearing the year-end holidays, he went on to add.
Present at the Indonesia booth were about forty tourism players like hotels, travel agents, hotels, cruise ships and also diving centers and as many as 11 provincial tourism agencies.
The booth offered visitors with Indonesian food and beverages and performances from the Wonderful Indonesia team and also the latest information regarding Mount Agung in Bali.
The data from Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data shows that in the year 2015 Chinese visitors had taken the third spot for the number of foreign tourists who had visited Indonesia or equal to 11% from the total number of foreign tourists.
In 2016 China had gone up to the second spot with as many as 1,452,971 people, that is about 11% from the total number of foreign tourists. Meanwhile the first spot was grabbed by Singapore.
As for this year from January till September there were about 1,103,503 Chinese tourists who had arrived in Indonesia up by 45.68% from the same period last year that had recorded 1,606,615 people.
