The Tourism Ministry of Indonesia is preparing to host the Wonderful Indonesia Culinary and Shopping Festival 2017 with a collaboration of Indonesian Shopping Centers Association (APPBI) to promote the tourism and the culture of Indonesia.
Wonderful Indonesia Culinary and Shopping Festival 2017 will go for one full month, beginning September 27 to October 27.
This gala event will be joined by 150 shopping malls across all the modern cities of Indonesia such as Jakarta, Banten, Bandung, Surabaya, Malang, Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Palembang, Medan, Bali, Makassar, Pekanbaru and Balikpapan.
The marketing development deputy of Tourism Ministry Esthy Reko Astuti said that the concept of this food and shopping festival would show up the Tourism Pentahelix, which consisting of scholars, business people, community, government and media.
Esthy Reko Astuti also added that this festival marks the second anniversary of this event. Around 65 % of the international tourists come to Indonesia because of its vibrant culture and 35 % for nature and 5 percent for man-made attractions such as sports events or MICE event. Astuti believes that this event will attract a lot of tourists.
Tourism Ministry’s culinary and shopping tourism acceleration team head, Vita Datau Messakh added that Wonderful Indonesia Culinary and Festival 2017 is a platform to showcase the many varieties of local cuisines and handicrafts of Indonesia.
This event is the perfect platform for micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) that produce local food and handicraft.
Head of APPBI Stefanus Ridwan informed that the opening of the festival will be held on September 27 at Kota Kasablanka Mall in Jakarta. There will be traditional dance presentation and fashion show of tenun and batik from renowned local designers.
According to tourism minister Arief Yahya, this cultural fiesta is the main schema to attract the global foodies and shopaholics out there as well as attracting Chinese tourists.
The Tourism Minister of Indonesia Arief Yahya said that China is the main target tourism market at the moment, which surpasses Australia in terms of the number of tourists travelling to Indonesia. He also said that the Chinese tourists also visit Geneva in Switzerland and Paris for the food and cultural shows.
