An ill-behave and unruly passenger forced an international flight to land in Lincoln early Tuesday and spend 5 1/2 hours on the tarmac, airport police informed.

A Boeing 737 flying with 140 passengers from Jamaica to Calgary made an emergency landing at the Lincoln airport at 12:22 Tuesday morning after a 48-year-old Calgary man refused to sit in his seat and disturbed other passengers, Airport Police Chief Robert Ziemer said.

The passenger was inebriated while created the racket that happened about four hours after Sunwing Flight WG739 took off from Montego Bay, he said. The man had a panic attack, Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said.

FBI agents questioned him and other passengers, said Sandy Breault, spokeswoman for the FBI’s Omaha office.

“There was no threat at all,” she added, “including no terroristic threat.”

U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg will decide whether to charge the man with a crime, Breault said.

Rescue crews took him to a hospital, Ziemer said. Four people traveling with him also stayed behind after clearing customs.
