This year, the show’s exhibition halls been given a complete makeover, with a fresh new design ensuring even easier navigation and exciting new DIY and bedroom sections. Plus, more than 700 decorators and designers, furniture suppliers, kitchen manufacturers, and paint and décor specialists who will be exhibiting, have been months in preparation in order to showcase the very best of local and international home and interior trends, products and services.
Decorex Joburg takes place over the Women’s Day long weekend, on 6-10 August 2015 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
For a taste of what to expect at this year’s exhibition, we asked some regular exhibitors for some ‘great ideas’ to inspire Decorex Joburg visitors…
1. Bold and beautiful
Who says brights need be reserved only for accent pieces – a dazzling canary yellow scatter here, an attention-grabbing acid-lime throw there? Today’s decorators are showing a brave hand with hue for interiors awash with all the vibrant, unabashed tones of the tropics. Pattern, too, is no longer relegated ‘wallflower’ status, with oversized florals consorting happily alongside smart pinstripes and pulsating geometric motifs on walls, upholstery and even underfoot. At this year’s Decorex Joburg, decorators like the show’s patron Stephen Falcke will use papers and textiles from the likes of Home Fabrics and Fabric Fusion, to provide endless inspiration for combining punch-drunk colour and eye-popping prints in interiors that simply refuse to fade into the background.
2. Darkly divine
Black is back and, this time, delivering a heavyweight stroke of ambient clout. Visitors to Decorex Joburg should brace themselves for an eyeful of the spectrum’s moodiest hue, used sparingly to frame and delineate interiors, with contrasting white for smart sophistication, or, for maximum impact, in large, sweeping brushstrokes that dissolve the boundaries between walls, ceilings and floors to form intimate, cocoon-like spaces. Whether you choose shades of grey in the form of Concreate’s clever concrete wall panels, or a lustrous lacquer black from Plascon, dark walls are undoubtedly one of the most dramatic décor directions of the year.
3. Go graphic
From furniture lines to wallpaper and paint effects, graphic shapes and patterns are everywhere. Even pastels are given new attitude when paired with steely, industrial greys or crisp white in no-nonsense sharply angular geometrics. Decorex co-headline sponsor, Plascon, demonstrated the grown-up appeal of these news lines in their 2015 colour palette. 4. Culinary cool
2015 sees the kitchen firmly entrenched as the heart of the home. It’s now not only the ‘family room’ and ‘open plan’ kitchen but the place where we work, play and entertain our friends. The kitchen section at Decorex Joburg always promises plenty of great new ideas and gadgets, like this clever concept form exhibition co-sponsor Caesarstone, where innovative laser-cut countertops provide efficient storage for breadboards, trays, platters and even potted culinary herbs.
5. Shelf improvement
Storage comes out of the closet thanks to the wizardry of modern-day furniture makers. Create bespoke wall-mounted shelving using repurposed plumbing pipes – brought right up to date with a coat of copper-coloured paint. And in the kitchen, take a leaf out of Spotlight Kitchens’ book and conceal the clutter of countertop appliances with their clever sliding door system.
