According to the UNWTO, international tourists globally grew around the world by 4% in the first half of 2016 and various destinations around the world received 561 million international tourists, which is 21 million more than last year. Asia-Pacific regions attracted 9% more international arrivals and the Americas saw 4% increase in international tourists. Europe and Africa had 3 and 5% growth, respectively. However, the Middle East reported a 9% decrease in international arrivals in the first half of this year, although this result differed according to destinations.
The UNWTO said that the rest of 2016 promises overall better results for total international arrivals for the year. Africa, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific areas are expected to do better than Europe and Middle East this year. Top markets showing growth in expenditure on international and outbound travel are China, the US, Germany, Spain, Norway, Australia and Japan.
