To promote Chile as an adventure travel destination an international ad campaign has been launched.

After the sporadic violent anti-government protests, there was a dip in foreign visitors hence the move followed.

Chilean sports and personalities gathered to tout the campaign at a ceremony in Santiago’s Metropolitan Park which was aimed at to position Chile as the best field for adventure and rugged sports.

Sports Minister Cecilia Perez stated that many tourists who visited Chile they do sports in their country’s outdoors because through their sports figures know the marvels of northern, central and southern Chile.

Around 30 percent of foreign visitors to Chile stated that they took part in a sport during their stay which was up to 60 percent and they stated  they came for the nature and wildlife as per the Chile’s Federation of Tourism Businesses (Fedetur).

“Welcome to Adventure Tourism” is the name of the campaign and will be targeting several countries in a bid to boost tourism.

During the current peak season the Fedetur is braced for a 38.2-percent plunge in foreign visitor arrivals.

According to Monica Zalaquett, deputy minister of tourism, tourism generates some 400,000 jobs throughout the country.
