The global leadership team of Intrepid will have two new senior executive, the addition of two new executives will see Micheal Edwards moving to the role of Chief growth officer from January and Leigh Barnes to the newly created role of chief purpose officer in effect from July.
Intrepid saw a record growth of 20 percent from across its brands after returning to independent ownership since the last two years.
James Thornton created the roles to maintain sustained growth both in terms of purpose and profit which will be aligning with the company’s long-term vision.
The Intrepid Group is expected to become the first billion –dollar adventure travel company and will donate $3 million in the local communities through the Intrepid foundation by 2020.
Thorton said that the new senior executive roles are a testament to the rapid growth and innovation taking place which they have been experiencing as a global leader in the tourism industry.
The roles have been created to fulfil their business’s founding philosophy which will help people and the planet via travel. The purpose and profit will not remain mutually exclusive while creating new industry standard.
Edwards was earlier the Intrepid Group’s regional director in Europe, Middle East and Asi and in his new position will manage the organization’s regional directors and marketing services team.
The Intrepid Group will expand in 2018 its Adventure Cruising programme in Asia and will launch its first Antarctica charters in partnership with Chimu Adventures.
Barnes was earlier the director of North America will look after the Intrepid Foundation and external partners as Intrepid Group wants to create more shared value projects and operate a business with a purpose beyond profit.
In the coming year it will allot 0.75 per cent of global revenue towards purpose activities and create a team of dedicated employees that will lead the Intrepid Foundation and will attain B-Corp status.
Thorton said that the board and the leadership were confident that they choose the best people for the roles.
