As per 2016 Europcar Tourism Index conducted by Europcar Ireland, more than 37 percent of the visitors in Ireland were the first timers and 57 percent came for the second time. It’s recognized as one of the largest car rental companies in Ireland.
This survey was conducted over 6,094 tourists who visited Ireland and rented Europcar vehicles somewhere between April and November 2016. The research shows that UK (23%), Germany (5%) and France (4%) as the top three European countries tourists visit frequently last year. Outside Europe, 17 percent of visitors came from the United States to Ireland in 2016 followed by just 6% from Australia and 4% from Canada.
In terms of accommodation, hotels were at the top spot last year with two third bookings. Next goes guesthouses and Bb’s with 55 percent, 47 percent decided to opt for family and friends, 26 percent selected self catering accommodation and 20 percent shared accommodation through Airbnb or Couchsurfing.
Also, 43% of the travelers decided to stay on four star hotels out of 66 percent of the total tourists staying in hotels. 31% went with three star hotels and 9% selected five star. Majority of the 52 percent of the tourists paid between €101 and €200 per night for hotel stay and 71% felt their hotels were good value for money. 83% of the travelers rated Irish hotel staffs as very friendly and helpful and 68% considered their hotel WIFI to be good or very good.
