A number of Irish and French tourism companies travelled to Montpellier this week, to meet and do business with some 40 French travel agents based in and around the southern French city. The workshop was organised by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with Aer Lingus and Montpellier Airport, to celebrate and launch the new Aer Lingus flight between Montpellier and Dublin – due to commence on 20 May – and to grow tourist numbers from this part of France.
As well as emphasising ease of access between Montpellier and the island of Ireland, the event was also an excellent opportunity for Tourism Ireland to highlight the Wild Atlantic Way, the Causeway Coastal Route and The Gobbins Cliff Path, Ireland’s Ancient East and Dublin. The French travel agents also took part in a quiz – answering questions all about Ireland to be in with a chance to win Aer Lingus flights to Dublin.
Elmagh Killeen, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for southern Europe, said: “We are delighted that so many of the influential travel agents in this part of France took the time to come and hear about our wonderful tourism offering and the many things to see and do on a holiday on the island of Ireland. 2015 was the best year ever for French visitors to Ireland, with the most recent CSO figures showing an increase of +20% forSeptember to November. Tourism Ireland will roll out an extensive programme of promotional activity throughout 2016 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth.”
