Travelers’ Choice awards are based on consistently outstanding reviewer ratings and the prestigious fine dining list recognises hospitality alongside gastronomy.
Maguire and his dedicated team provide mouth-watering proof that it’s not only city restaurants that take top prizes: for over a decade, food lovers have journeyed from near and far to savour the masterpiece meals on offer.
Guests can linger over their food and wine as MacNean House also offers luxurious accommodation, with 17 tastefully appointed rooms and two suites.
TripAdvisor’s acclaim is down to Maguire’s passion and insistence on sourcing the finest local seasonal ingredients.
Ireland is a natural larder of homegrown produce, artisan cheeses, fresh seafood and free-range meats, all feeding the country’s culinary revolution.
The ‘amazing’ nine course tasting menu was particularly highly commended as: ‘sublime…each course stood alone yet complemented the others’.
MacNean temptations can include Castletownbere sea scallop, Thornhill duck confit spring roll, quail and crispy langoustine.
Dinner menus, which change with the seasons, feature seared and smoked pigeon breast, monkfish with crab, brill alongside lobster cannelloni and Oisin venison with a pistachio crust.
Vegetarians will be thrilled to discover a superb choice equally as exciting and inventive.
Maguire is a Blacklion native, but he’s cooked for prime ministers and royalty and worked with some of world’s highest profile chefs and restaurants, including stints in San Sebastian and at Michelin-starred establishments.
In 1999 he won Eurotoque Young Chef of the Year and in 2001 took over and transformed the family restaurant. His vision: to share his love for food with as many people as possible. Numerous further awards followed.
Today Neven Maguire is one of Ireland’s best-loved celebrity chefs, hailed by leading food writer Georgina Campbell as a national treasure.
TripAdvisor reviewers agree. Comments range from ‘exquisite’ to ‘the most friendly staff you could imagine’, ‘we felt welcome and appreciated’, ‘fabulous’ and ‘beautiful food, brilliant service’.
Already popular for romantic and good food getaways, MacNean House and Restaurant now tops any Irish gastro itinerary, as the Emerald Isle takes its place among the great gourmet destinations.
