In an unfortunate incident an Irish tourist died after falling from a sixth floor balcony during a holiday in Tenerife. Her body was found in a garden area below the apartment around 8pm on Wednesday.
Ramona Fagan, 22, from Cork, fell from the sixth floor of an apartment building in the tourist area of Arona in the south of the island.
Last night then police said they were still waiting for the results of the post-mortem which would help to determine why the young woman fell and whether it was intentional or the result of an accident.
Experts are expected to test for the presence of drink and drugs in her body as part of routine inquiries. Detectives confirmed no-one had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The complex is in the Playa de Americas area of Arona and just a two-minute walk from the beach. Ramona’s Facebook page has been flooded with tributes by friends.
One described her as a “sweet, beautiful and genuine girl.” Another friend wrote on social media: “People need to know how much of a loving kind-hearted person you were. “You were the best friend to me for years. Been through so much together.”
Ramona had spoken about her holiday on social media. She posted on Instagram earlier this year: “Six weeks till a summer of adventures and fun! So excited I could explode!”
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is giving consular assistance to Ramona’s family.
