The tourism sector of Dominica is all ready to embrace the manifold benefits from the widespread destruction triggered by Hurricane Irma to the Leeward Islands after it was confirmed by the officials that the cruise ship ‘Carnival Fascination’ is due to arrive here on Tuesday.
Robert Tonge who is the tourism and urban renewal minister mentioned that since the category 5 storm had destroyed the regional infrastructure of the British Virgin Islands and St. Maarten, the cruise ship industry is actually benefitting the arrival of the Carnival Fascination.
Tonge feels that their season commences on 23rd October.
Therefore, he feels that this is out of the season mainly because of their inability to go to the other islands that have been affected.
Tonge went on to add that they are ready to receive them and offer them the best possible service. He feels that the cruise vessel would remain there intil 5.00 p.m. (local time) and all stakeholders have already been contacted and they have let them know about the early arrival.
Tonge said that all the training have been done before the season.
He feels that they would like to make sure that people remembering this kind of training and would make sure that the best services would be offered to the visitors once they arrive in Dominica.
The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) said that the island should welcome an increased number of cruise ship calls owing to the hurricane.
