In August 2017, over 253,800 tourist entries were recorded which accounted for an up of 20% from 2016, as per the Central Bureau of Statistics. Over 2.3 million tourists entered the country from January to August 2017. This was a 24% rise from the last year and 20.4% more than in 2015.
From the commencement of 2017, tourism has helped the nation to earn and contribute $3.4 billion into the Israeli economy.
However, the Tourism Ministry for the first time conducted a pre-summer marketing campaign in Europe, supporting travel to Israel during summers. So far, this period was quite a low period in terms of tourism, a development which the ministry tried to alter.
The first campaign of the Poland ministry caused 60% increase in tourist entries from the eastern European nation.
Out of all the tourist entries, 231,800 came by air, a growth of 19% in last year August and 9% on August 2015. 21,900 additional visitors turned up via land crossings, 18,800 of which through Jordan and about 3,100 via Egypt. In August, a 125% increase in day visitors was recorded; 21,200 this year in comparison to 9,400 who came in August 2016.
