Russian touristsIsrael is focusing on Russian tourists for the month and the Tourism Ministry is investing an extra $2.6 million to attract Russian tourists after crises in Egypt and Turkey.

The focus will remain for a month On Russia said the Ministry spokeswoman Michal Gerstler  “in an attempt to create an alternative.”

With the Oct. 31 crash of a passenger plane in the Sinai Peninsula that killed all 224 people on board, nearly all of them Russians, the tour operators from Russia suspended sales of packages to Turkey as the plane was downed by a bomb.

Also after the Turkish warplanes shot down a Russian jet along the Syrian border on Tuesday, the operators have turned all the more reluctant.

Israel has however plans of wooing Russians tourists through online ad campaigns and other marketing strategies.
