The ministry had prepared a report for the January-October period, supported by data received from Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen airports and the Haydarpaşa, Pendik, Tuzla, Zeytinburnu, Ambarlı and Karaköy ports.
As per a report compiled by Anadolu Agency (AA) as much as 9.1 million foreign tourists had arrived in Istanbul in the initial 10 months of the year.
As compared to the same period of last year that had touched 7.9 million foreign tourists the number of tourists visiting Istanbul had risen by nearly 16%. During October, 1.1 million foreign travellers had visited Istanbul as compared to the same period of last year marking a 42% increase as compared to the same time last year.
During that time, about 790,952 foreign travellers had arrived in Istanbul in October.
In the report the number of international tourists coming to Istanbul in January-October exceeded the figures in 2016 and the numbers had approached 10.8 million as recorded in the same period of 2015.
Statistics mention that the passengers carried by airlines had risen by 16.4% in the period of January-October last year while arrivals by sea had declined by 52.7%.
In 2016, 7.8 million foreign tourists had visited Istanbul by air while in 2017 this figure had risen to 9 million.
And the arrivals by sea had dropped from 51,912 to about 24,567 as compared to the precious year.
In terms of the distribution of foreign tourists as per the nationalities in the 10 months of this year Germans led the way with 862,453 tourists to Istanbul that represents 9.5% of total foreign tourists but a decline of 2.7% as compared to 2016 was noticed when 886,329 German tourists had arrived.
This report also comprises statistics on foreign tourists from Arab nations to Istanbul during the last three years.
