Top Gear presenters Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc spent a weekend filming in Kerry in April, for part of the famous BBC motoring show. Filming took place at some of our top attractions, including Ladies View and the dramatic panorama over the Killarney Lakes. During their time here, the two presenters also highlighted Kerry to their combined 2.5 million followers – with Chris Evans describing his Kerry experience on Twitter as “Best road I’ve ever driven on” and Matt LeBlanc tweeting “Looks like an awesome drive”.
The chance to showcase the stunning natural beauty of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way on Top Gear to such a huge audience is a fantastic opportunity for tourism and the news has been welcomed by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Britain, said: “We are really excited to see the Top Gear episode filmed in Kerry earlier this year – it’s the kind of publicity that money simply could not buy and a superb way to highlight Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way to millions of people across Britain, inspiring them to put Ireland on their holiday ‘wish list’ for 2016.”
Fiona Monaghan, Head of Fáilte Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way said: “This high profile exposure will certainly bring our promotion of the Wild Atlantic Way up a gear. While the car may be the star in programmes like this, we believe that the stunning scenery along our Atlantic Coast will certainly steal the show.”
