Jammu & Kashmir organized an international adventure race named ‘Expedition India 2017’ for the first time of this kind. Being hosted by Johannesburg based Adventure Company in partnership with Department of Tourism and J&K Bank.
In the event, fourteen teams comprising thirteen from different countries and one from local team are partaking. MoS for Tourism Priya Sethi greeted the visitors in the opening ceremony which took place held on Tuesday evening at the same time the first leg of the downhill race was also hosted by Secretary Tourism M H Malik and Chairman J&K Bank Parvez Ahmad here at Shankarachary hill jointly.
While welcoming the athletes at the opening ceremony, Priya Sethi explained that J&K is well-known for its rich culture and scenic beauty and visitors across the world can explore.
Sethi also added by saying that the department would put in order other similar events in the coming days to draw in foreign travelers to J&K.
She also said that it was quite heartening to notice that overseas travelers from different countries visited this place in spite of travel advisories.
“This shows that the state of Jammu and Kashmir is safe for travelling and the tourists here are feeling safe. They enjoy the beauty and culture without any fear,” she said.
“However with these events we want to dilute that misconception and attract travelers to state. We have all kind of tourism products to offer from pilgrim tourism to culture tourism and adventure tourism to leisure tourism, whatever you name it, we have it,” said Secretary Tourism.
