The Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett is ready to welcome the Global Conference on Sustainable Tourism that would be taking place for the 27th to 29th November, 2017 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre (MBCC).
The registration for the UNWTO, Government of Jamaica, World Bank Group and Inter-American Development Bank Global Conference of Jobs and Inclusive Growth: Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism was scheduled to commence on 17th November.
But then it was extended to 20th November with an aim to accommodate a last-moment commotion.
After a reconnaissance visit to the MBCC and reports from the organizing committee on Saturday (18th November), Minister Bartlett have the thumbs-up. It was expected that there would be as many as 800 to 1,000 participants. However Minister Edmund Bartlett declared that at Friday the registration stood at 905 and they might end up with registration closer to 1100 at the end of the day.
He said that registrations included some of the most significant players in the industry, both from the point of view of those managing and executing as well as the policy drivers and the international civil servants leadership.
Among the people confirmed for the conference opening ceremony include the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, President of the Dominican Republic, the Prime Minister of Jamaica Danilo Medina, Andrew Holness and also the Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Alan Chastenet.
The confirmed conference speakers are UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rafa, President of World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara Manzo who is the Vice President for Countries, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Alexandre Meira da Rosa and many others.
This tourism conference is the flagship event for the 2017 UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
