The Government of Jamaica is now moving to promote the country as gastronomic tourism destination. For this Jamaica is welcoming all the stakeholders who are capable to hold up the country as gastronomic nation.
The farmer and hotel operator, Daniel Grizzle told that gastronomy tourism will close the gap that exists between agriculture and tourism as farmers produce more high-value fruits and vegetables to meet the demands of visitors. This will cut down on food imports and save the country much-needed foreign exchange.
Daniel Grizzle said that the tourism is an export industry.
The agriculture complements tourism because the guests come, and the hotels feed them and they pay the country in foreign exchange. So, the hotels and restaurants are earning foreign exchange indirectly as they don’t have to use foreign exchange to import the food to feed guests.
Grizzle also added that the marketing of Jamaica as a gastronomy tourism destination is a pragmatic move in this time, as Caribbean cuisine is gaining popularity across Europe.
