The conference would be United Nations Global Conference on Tourism Development.
Edmund Barlett, former minister of tourism of Jamaica said that the United Nations had declared that 2017 would be the year when the first global conference on tourism development and sustainability would be conducted and for the event Jamaica has been selected as the venue. He said that this was because 2017 marks the International Year for Sustainable Tourism Development.
He further added that the UN’s development agencies would be present in the discussions to study tourism’s future as well as its scope and also the developmental strategies that would be adopted for promoting tourism.
Barlett also said that this conference would represent delegates from both the public and private sector part of the UNWTO or United Nations World Tourism Organisation would contribute to hosting the event.
He was addressing the media after the Gastronomy of Fats and Oils seminar had been inaugurated by him.
The tourism minister also said that this UN tourism conference would provide attendees a wonderful opportunity to taste a good quality of Jamaican food. The attendees would not only represent the tourism ministers of 157 countries but also include representatives from 500 companies that are closely connected to tourism provisions and services.
Finally, Barlett remarked that almost 88% of tourists travel to new places seeking innovative sources of gastronomical pleasures. And, he said that U.S. was the largest market in this field with 23.7 million people travelling to this place every year for indulging in gastronomical experiences.
