One of the two anti-ice systems which prevent ice from building around the engine failed in one of the two planes. The anti-icing system failed on a Tokyo-bound flight that took off from San Diego. In another plane an electrical glitch made six toilets unusable on another flight. The electrical system failure connected to the lavatories affected a flight from Moscow to Tokyo. The failure resulted in six of the seven toilets on the plane not being able to flush and the airline said that they are looking into the problem.
These are the new technological issues that have risen which are similar to the entire fleet being grounded earlier this year following battery problems. A number of technical and safety problems in recent months have been pointed in the 787 Dreamliner.
The fleet was compelled to be grounded in January as fire broke out on a JAL Dreamliner and an All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight and was forced to make an emergency landing due to battery fault resulting in fire in one of the compartments.
Though the planes have since been allowed back into the air, other issues have emerged. Battery problems resulted in the entire Dreamliner fleet being grounded earlier this year In July, a fire broke out on a 787 jet operated by Ethiopian Airlines while it was parked in Heathrow airport. It was traced to the upper rear part of the plane where a locator transmitter is located.
In August, ANA said it had found damage to the battery wiring on two 787 locator transmitters during checks. US carrier United Airlines also found a pinched wire during an inspection of one of its six 787.
Earlier this week, JAL announced a $9.5bn (£5.9bn) plane deal with rival Airbus. It is the first time that it has agreed to buy Airbus planes, having preferred Boeing for many decades.
The performance of Dreamliner may have got a lot to do with JAL’s decision. Dreamliner is still hailed as the most advanced and popular and advanced plane in the industry. Since its launch it has receives received orders for more than 950 jets.
