After an assessment conducted by the Air travel intelligence company OAG rated more than 130 airlines on their punctuality over a period of 12 months. A five start rating was awarded to those with the highest number of flights arriving within 15 minutes of the scheduled time and Jet2 was the only British airline to achieve this.
Around 87.5 per cent of the flights of JetAirways plied on time and in OAG’s list the low-cost airline was considered as the 10th most punctual.
Jet2 surpassed the Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and easyjet while the currently defunct Monarch received four stars.
The number of flights operated by British Airways and easyjet were more than Jet2, this resulted in their lower score. Around 78 percent of the BA’s arrived on time while 75 per cent of the easyJet’s land within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.
OAG had also analysed via its On Time Programme (OTP) data from airports around the world to determine which were the most punctual.
UK, Birmingham, Cradiff and Liverpool bagged five stars with 90 per cent , 89 per cent and 87 percent respectively for on time arrival and departure.
John Grant, the senior analyst at OAG said that Jet2.com has shown robust performance during the busiest travelling months of the year. Overcoming the turbulent time that the aviation industry is facing, the UK airports should be proud of their speed, in the next 12 months there should be consistency as the number of flights in and out of UK are increasing.
The London Heathrow received the busiest two stars for punctuality while London Gatwick got one star with 38 percent of flights plying 15 minutes late from the scheduled time.
