According to the law enforcement sources, two people reportedly heard some shooting sounds following which the police went floor to floor to clear the airport and ensure there was nothing to be found. In fact, a surveillance video from inside the terminal also did not show any shooting.
Terminal 8 was evacuated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey however; there has been no reports of injuries or arrests. Passengers were evacuated from Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The video and photos from the scene showed that hundreds of stranded passengers were waiting outside the terminal.
Although some passengers were nervous and some panicked, people started talking amongst themselves to make the situation easier.
Hundreds of bags and suitcases were left behind as passengers ran out of the airport.
Officials are working to figure out exactly what happened, and seems that it is hoax 911 calls and word of mouth led to the panic.
In addition to the Port Authority police, the New York Police Department had its Hercules Strike teams, Critical Response Command, Strategic Response Group, Emergency Service Unit and patrol cops on the scene, according to New York law enforcement officials.
