Former Tui Group deputy chief executive Johan Lundgren will be joining EasyJet as the new chief executive. The appointment was announced after Carolyn McCall left EasyJet to become the chief executive at ITV.
Lundgren was earlier with Tui Group for 12 years having served as the group deputy chief executive and chief executive, mainstream markets.
From December 1 Lundgren will join the board of EasyJet as the director while McCall will step down on November 30, but she will still remain with the airline until December end to provide assistance in the transition.
John Barton the chairman of EasyJet was delighted to announce the appointment of the new CEO, Johan’s proven experience in European travel and in broader group roles will help the company in the long run.
Talking about Johan he further said that he is strategic yet operationally focused and proved himself as a customer-centric, charismatic, successful leader. Under Johan’s leadership EasyJet will go from strength to strength. He also thanked Carolyn for her services to the airline and wished good luck for her future role.
Lundgren said that this being an exciting time to join Europe’s leading airline, he had flown and been a fan of EasyJet for many years. He was looking forward to contribute more to the growing success of EasyJet.
