Join the Most Magical Loy Krathong Celebration in Thailand at Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai

Published on : Wednesday, August 16, 2017 (4)The beloved festival of Loy Krathong is a time of glimmering lights, fun-filled revelry, and new beginnings. Across Thailand, people release krathong (floating sculptures fashioned from banana trunk, banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense) into rivers and lakes as a way of thanking and paying respect to the Goddess of Water. This tradition also symbolises bidding goodbye to past misfortunes and welcoming new blessings.

In Chiang Mai, the Festival of Lights takes on an added dimension of enchantment thanks to Yi Ping, the Northern Thai festival of sky lanterns, which coincides with Loy Krathong. Not only are glowing lanterns released into the river but also into the sky. The result is one of the most spectacular sights in the world, with hundreds of twinkling lights illuminating both the heavens and the earth.

For three days, the city comes alive with traditional lanterns, sound and light shows, boat races, beauty contests and traditional games. The grand Krathong Parade is one of the highlights, with elaborate floats and costume-clad participants offering a glimpse into the country’s fascinating past legends and present-day pop culture.

Festival of Lights Offer
