Abu Dhabi’s UAE National Day fireworks programme has been expanded to 13 shows at seven sites across the emirate: Abu Dhabi Corniche, Yas Island, Khor Al Maqta, Al Ain, Madina Zayed , Delma Island and Sila. This is part of a mega, emirate-wide schedule of National Day activities (November 28 – December 2) designed to engage residents and visitors alike.
Some 63,410 shots in total will be fired in specially-designed shows by Spanish fireworks specialist Pirotecnia Igual – the company behind this year’s Rio de Janeiro Revellion show, which played to high media acclaim and was watched by a live audience of over two million and millions more via Brazilian TV.
Abu Dhabi Corniche
A 12-minute fireworks show will run at Abu Dhabi Corniche on December 1st and 2nd at 9pm.
The Corniche will also come alive with a mammoth activity plan of entertainment and games to engage all families and nationalities and the Emirates Heritage Club will mount additional attractions at its Corniche Breakwater Heritage Village, which will be open from 9am until 10pm on December 2nd. In addition to its usual attractions, there will be a traditional market and handicraft demonstrations of leatherware, glassware and knife production. The club will also have a traditional rowing boat available to take up to 10 people at a time on a trip along the Corniche.
The trips will be free and run every half hour from 4.3pm until 7pm.
December 2nd will see thousands of cars decorated in the colours of the UAE national flag gather to bid for entry into the Guinness World Records. The parade route will start at du Forum, Yas Island, and cover more than 3.5 kilometres.
A three-minute fireworks show will bring to a close the Yas Island National Day parade celebrations at 8pm.
A free-to-attend concert with an Arab singing star will be held in du Forum, after the fireworks display. Details of the star performer will be announced shortly.
Khor Al Maqta
Three-minute shows will run on December 1st and 2nd at Khor Al Maqta – in front of the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel with firing at 8.30pm. The show will spread out across the water to be visible to people dining out at the hotels and the souk, which flank the channel.
In Abu Dhabi’s heritage heartland, 10 minute shows will run at 8.30pm on December 1st and 2nd at Hili Fun City, with entry to the park being free.
Also planned for the weekend is the Al Ain Aerobatic Show which takes off at Al Ain International Airport from November 30 – December 2 and will have the Oasis City’s biggest on-ground family entertainment extravaganza.
The ‘FLY PASS’ bonus package gives visitors entry for two into the 10th Al Ain Aerobatic Show, two entry tickets to Al Ain Zoo, including ‘Feed The Giraffe’ passes, two tickets for the adrenaline-packed Wadi Adventure white water rafting and surfing park, and a 30% discount on all facilities at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club – all for AED 125 (US$ 34) – instead of AED 500 (US$ 136), which would be the overall cost of all the tickets taken individually.
