Jordan has long been at the top position in attracting tourists for medical tourism. However, due to tight visa requirement rules imposed last year, percentage of Arab patients dropped to 40 percent drastically. A thorough Google search will reveal that Jordan no longer feature as top 10 medical tourism destinations anymore. On the other hand, countries like South America, Turkey and Far East have made their respective places whatsoever.
Dubai is slowly establishing itself as one of the emerging medical tourism destination in the world. Dr. Meteb Wrekat, the director of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Tourism Directorate, believes that private medical providers as well as government representatives need to work in complete harmony if medical tourism of Jordan wants to outpace its competitors. This sector provides around 10 percent of Jordan’s GDP which cannot be overlooked in anyway.
The contribution of medical tourism is not only attracting large amount of revenue to the hospitals and clinics distributed all over Jordan but also influencing the service providers in different sectors like hospitality and transport as well. The newly created body wants to cooperate with the private sectors and improving the obstacles as well by eradicating and managing patient complaints. Also, they want to make sure that all hospitals apply the prices fixed by the Ministry of Health.
