With close proximity with India, Jordan with its rich cultural and architectural history and famous attractions like the Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum has been attracting tourists from India for long, witnessed 50,000 tourists from India last year. Ashit Taneja, Country Head, Jordan Tourism Board, Representative Office of India spoke about Jordan’s visa on arrival scheme and about traveling in groups.
Mr. Taneja said that Jordan is and will always be a safe and stable country for visit. This can be attributed to a number of factors namely: the leadership, the people, their moderation and open-minded thinking process and their way of living. The leadership of King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and before that, his father’s has been highly helpful in building this base. Jordan is safe like any other tourist destination in the world. India and Jordan share a warm relationship for a long time. The two countries signed their first bilateral agreement for cooperation and friendly relations in 1947, which was formalized in 1950 when the two countries established full-fledged diplomatic ties.
The welcoming relations, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries have developed over the years in the political, economic and cultural aspects.
More than 10,000 Indians stay in Jordan. They work in textile, construction and manufacturing sectors, fertilizer companies, health sector, universities, IT, financial companies and multilateral organization. Almost 50,000 Indians visited Jordan in 2016, with hopes of more numbers. Jordanians are very welcoming and offers excellent blend of tradition, culture along with developed infrastructure and world class hospitality services. Jordanian food too is of high quality.
