Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong – Skull Island director was officially appointed as the Tourism Ambassador for Vietnam yesterday for the 2017-2020 tenure by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at a ceremony. Its generally being considered that Vogt-Roberts is the first film director to promote the image of the people and culture of Vietnam to international audience as well as bring the country closer to Hollywood film producers and directors.
The film at the opening ceremony, as mentioned by the ministry representative received positive feedback as it hit the cinemas last weekend. In Vietnam, the movie broke box office records just after three days of screening where the backdrop and landscape was mostly filmed.
To quote Jordan Vogt-Roberts, ‘’ this is an incredible honour and one of the greatest privileges that I’ve ever received,” said Vogt-Roberts on receiving the title. I appreciate all the hospitality from locals who have welcomed me as their guest. I want to put this country on screen not only for the people here to see how beautiful their country looks and have a sense of pride in it, but also for the rest of the world. As the new tourism ambassador, he expressed his wish to bring more Hollywood productions, actors and directors to Vietnam and “to collaborate with local talent.” In a way, I can help to further expose the world to Vietnam, helping people know how beautiful this country is.’’
