Mega boxing event is expected to attract tourists to Auckland, New Zealand. The fight between Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz on December 10 for heavyweight title will attract a lot of New Zealanders to Auckland, and provide worldwide media exposure, feels Tourism Industry Association boss Chris Roberts.
“This is in the nature of a Bruce Springsteen rock concert or an All Blacks test, so it does attract people to the event,” Roberts said.
Roberts said big events are always good for tourism, but it’s very hard to know how many overseas visitors will fly in for the fight.
“Well it’s the biggest boxing event ever held in New Zealand but it’s not the biggest. On the world scale it’s just another boxing event.”
According to Boxing Rec independent rankings Parker’s rank is 7th in the world while Ruiz ranks 23rd.
