‘One should have the right amount of money at the right time’ – this is the new support package program that the tourism minister is Kaikoura is utilizing in promoting its tourism. Visitor spending dropped down to half after the region was hit by earthquake last year.
Now the government is supplying just below $900,000 to bring Kaikoura to the forefront. Tourism Minister Paula Bennett said that they first had to ensure proper connectivity to the town so that it can become accessible to the visitors before starting its marketing program.
To quote Paula, ‘’ There’s no point in promoting tourism in Kaikoura if the road wasn’t open and people couldn’t get there. Both aimed at domestic and international visitors so that next summer they’re really ready to go and everyone knows what the kind of opportunities are there.”
